530,219 items were sold through the Welsh Books Council's Distribution Centre in 2015/16, amounting to £3.9 million (gross).
Titles were distributed to over 800 outlets on behalf of 350 publishers.
The Editorial Department dealt with 186 manuscripts during the year on behalf of 15 publishers.
The Department provided design services for 110 titles from 12 publishers.
SERVICES TO SCHOOLS
Book Clubs (Y Clwb Llyfrau)
The Book Clubs was terminated on 31 July 2015.
The Council's three Schools Officers visited a total of 572 schools and collected orders amounting to £388,525.
Booksellers arranged 313 sales opportunities under the Outreach Scheme and books worth £132,598 were sold.
DISTRIBUTION OF PUBLISHING GRANTS
The Council distributed a total of £665,450 towards the publishing of English-language books and magazines; 81 books were supported together with three magazines and one literary supplement from the Literature Grant. In addition, 17 books which had received author advance grants were published, and 24 marketing grants were distributed.
A total of £1,633,550 was distributed towards the publishing of Welsh-language books and magazines and other material, including games and electronic material (such as e-books) as well as the online news serivce (referred to below). 221 books were supported, and 10 magazines. Payments to authors and illustrators amounted to £376,350, and a sum of £32,607 was distributed to booksellers.
An extension to the additional funding of £200,000 from the Welsh Assembly Government was given to Golwg Newydd to continue the online news service, Golwg 360.
