Authors

There are a number of ways in which we support authors, though we don’t provide funding to authors directly. Whether you’re self-published and looking for a distributor, or a writer looking for a publisher, here are some suggestions on sources of help and support.

Finding a Publisher

If you’re looking to get your work published, we recommend contacting a publisher. Cyhoeddi Cymru / Publishing Wales represents publishers in Wales and you can find a list of their members and contact details for publishing houses on their website.

Resources for authors

Direct funding for self-publishing isn’t available through our grants but these are organisations that support authors directly:

Literature Wales wesbite (Opens in new tab)

Literature Wales is the body responsible for developing professional authors in Wales and they offer a range of support, including scholarships, training courses and mentoring schemes.

Society of Authors website (Opens in new tab)

The Society of Authors provides advice and support to authors and is a useful source of information on grants and literary awards.

Working with bookshops, libraries and schools

We update our ‘Directory of Authors and Illustrators’ every year. It is available on our website to help schools, bookshops and libraries contact authors to arrange events. If you would like to discuss a listing, please contact the Children’s Books and Reading Promotion department at plant@llyfrau.cymru (Opens email)

Distributing your book

If you are self-published, we can distribute your book to shops through our Distribution Centre, as long as the book has an ISBN and has the price and barcode printed on the book.
