Accessibility on this website

This website is run by the Books Council of Wales. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:

  • change colours, contrast levels and fonts using browser or device settings
  • zoom in up to 400% without the text spilling off the screen (although some words may break across lines at high zoom levels)
  • navigate most of the website using a keyboard
  • listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)

We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.

AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.

How accessible this website is

We know some parts of this website are not fully accessible:

  • some text may break across lines when zoomed to very high levels
  • the interactive map showing bookshop locations is not accessible to screen reader or keyboard users, however a fully accessible list alternative is provided on the same page
  • the contact form uses a simple arithmetic CAPTCHA (for example “2 + 3”), which may not be accessible to all users
  • some third-party embedded content, such as YouTube videos, may have accessibility limitations outside our direct control

Technical information about this website’s accessibility

The Books Council of Wales is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

Compliance status

This website has been tested against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) version 2.2 AA standard.

This website is partially compliant with WCAG 2.2 AA, due to the non-compliances listed below.

Non-accessible content

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

  • The interactive map of bookshops is not fully accessible to screen reader or keyboard users. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criteria 2.1.1 (Keyboard) and 4.1.2 (Name, Role, Value). An accessible list alternative is provided on the same page.
  • The contact form includes an arithmetic CAPTCHA, which may present barriers for some users. This may fail WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.3.1 (Info and Relationships).

We are reviewing alternative approaches to these features to improve accessibility.

Preparation of this accessibility statement

This statement was prepared on 30 January 2026.
It was last reviewed on 1 March 2026.

This website was last tested for accessibility in April 2025 against the WCAG 2.2 AA standard.

The test was carried out by AbilityNet, alongside internal testing by the website team. The most viewed pages were tested using a combination of automated tools and manual assessment. All issues identified in the audit have since been addressed.

A Welsh-language version of this accessibility statement will be made available separately.
