Aberystwyth Ceredigion City of Literature

Wales’ first City of Literature joins a global network of UNESCO Creative Cities

We’re proud to be a part of Aberystwyth Ceredigion’s Dinas Llên story. From the formation of the strategic partnership in 2021 to the announcement from UNESCO that our bid had been successful in October 2025, we have worked with our partners to shine a light on the area’s rich literary heritage. The Books Council has its roots in Aberystwyth Ceredigion, alongside many publishers, writers and bookshops. We’re delighted to provide a home for many of the functions and activities of the new UNESCO City of Literature in these early days.

It’s an exciting time for us in the Dinas Llên Partnership, with a lot happening both behind the scenes and across our communities throughout Ceredigion. You can keep up to date with everything that’s happening on the Dinas Llên  website Aberystwyth Ceredigion Dinas Llên City of Literature (opens in new tab) and social media channels @AberystwythDinasLlen (opens in new tab)

The Dinas Llên  Strategic Partnership comprises: Aberystwyth Town Council, Aberystwyth University, Books Council of Wales, Ceredigion County Council, the National Library of Wales and University of Wales Trinity Saint David (including The Centre for Advanced Welsh and Celtic Studies, Wales Literature Exchange and Literature Across Frontiers).
