The Tir na n-Og Awards are the oldest awards for children’s literature in Wales.
They were established in 1976 to recognise, honour and promote excellence in books for children and young people. Since then, they have been won by some of our best-loved authors, including Manon Steffan Ros, Jac Jones, Gareth F Williams, Catherine Fisher and Jackie Morris.
There are three categories:
- Welsh-language Primary (ages 4–11)
- Welsh-language Secondary (ages 11–18)
- English-language book with an authentic Welsh dimension for primary or secondary age children (4–18)
The overall winner in each category receives £1000.
Readers’ Choice Award
This is a special award chosen by the children and young people who take part in the Tir na n-Og Shadowing Scheme and nominate their own winner in each category from the shortlisted titles.
The awards are organised annually by the Department of Children’s Books and Reading Promotion. We’re grateful to CILIP Cymru (Chartered Institute of Librarians and Information Professionals in Wales) for sponsoring the awards.
